The Journey: Converting 4 Acres of Rubber into an Exotic Fruit Haven
With traditional rubber plantations fetching diminishing returns, 42-year-old Anit Thomas from Kumaramangalam in Thodupuzha, Idukki took the bold initiative to fell the rubber trees and transform her family’s land into a thriving commercial orchard cultivating Malaysian Red Dragon Fruit, Yellow Colombian Dragon Fruit, Vietnam Dwarf Early Jackfruit, Avocado, Rambutan, and Mangosteen.
Recognizing the surging consumer demand for chemical-free, nutrient-rich exotic fruits, Anit installed modern mist sprinklers and automated drip irrigation. Today, her venture not only generates steady multi-lakh revenue from fresh harvests but has established her as Kerala’s most trusted source of hardened, disease-resistant fruit saplings.
